You Too Can Become Self-Confident

Confidence is one of the most genuinely useful tools you can acquire in life. It assists you in so many ways both socially and in business that, if you are not already a confident person, you should definitely be working towards becoming one. Lets consider a few of the benefits. Here are some very quick examples: you get the job; you get the sale; you get the friends; you get the girl (boy). You could make quite a list, but you get the idea.

Just consider, for one moment, how you were influenced the last time you bought something or the last time you contributed to something. If your decision was influenced by a person, the chances are that person exuded confidence. You are very unlikely to have been influenced by someone who was shy, retiring or self-effacing.

If you do not consider yourself to be a confident person, it is therefore vitally important to your future business and social success that you become one. Now, as it turns out, this is not as hard as you might first think. Lets just consider what a confident person actually is: my proposal is that a confident person is simply someone who thinks they are confident. The desired behaviour ” confidence – simply oozes from individuals who believe in themselves.

So the first thing you need to do to acquire confidence is to acquire a deep, unshakeable belief in yourself and your abilities. This naturally raises the key question: how do you go about changing your beliefs? There are a number of ways you can do this very effectively including the use of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Self-Hypnosis and Affirmations; and all of these methods work, so there is no reason you should be without confidence in yourself.

When you have taken on-board this change of belief about yourself and what is possible for you, it will amaze you what can happen. Your life will begin to change for the better as the interactions you have with others become more effective producing entirely different outcomes. And you will begin to see success flowing toward you.

Of course, having confidence is not a substitute for not having skill or knowledge, but it goes a long way toward addressing that big success-factor, proven time and time again to consistently deliver real results ” attitude. So resolve right now that, if you are not already a confident person, you will become one because the power to change your beliefs is within you; and everything else flows from that.

Let’s Clean This Place Up!

“The world is not to be put in order; the world is order incarnate.

It is for us to put ourselves in unison with this order.” -Henry Miller

A few years ago, I was the publisher of a magazine called Creating Excellence. We were nearing an important advertising deadline and were a long way from reaching our sales objectives.

I called a full staff meeting for some green-light thinking on ways we could bring in new business and fill the holes we had in the upcoming issue.

There were several good ideas tossed about with almost everyone contributing-except for Ann. Ann always had something helpful to offer, so it was out of character that she hadn’t said anything.

When there was a lull in the brainstorming, she got everybody’s attention when she said, “Let’s clean this place up!”

Everyone turned to her with puzzlement and asked her to explain. She suggested that we devote an entire day to clean the office from top to bottom.

Now, a magazine production space is a busy place and not always one that appears neat and organized. Ours definitely fit this description. It had been a long while since it had been completely cleaned.

Her suggestion wasn’t met with immediate enthusiasm, but in keeping with our rule of not disparaging any ideas brought up in a brainstorming session, Ann was allowed to outline why she thought it was more than just a good idea.

In spite of the fact we were already behind in our work, she maintained that taking a day to put our “home” in order would enable us to work and sell from a better place.

She added another dimension to something I had said many times about successful sales, “It’s not so much what you say, but the space you say it from.” She convinced us that it was indeed worth it to create a new place to work from-one that provided a new perspective.

The cleanup went beyond the Friday we scheduled and into the weekend. Some even came in to paint. With everyone helping, the entire office looked and felt different.

And so did we.

It worked! We all pulled together to hit our sales goal. Everyone felt the change in attitude. We had more pride, and we felt more organized. We also sold more ads. Our customers could sense it.

We embodied excellence, which was what we were selling.

Take a good look at your workspace. Is it inspiring? Is it enjoyable to spend time there? If not, have at it. Make it some-thing to be proud of. You’ll find yourself being more productive and experience more joy in doing so.

What is truly in an Attitude?

As a professional, attitude says more about you than any word you could ever utter. Attitude takes on many forms. Your attitude toward work, your attitude toward your life, your attitude towards those you associate with (e.g. friends, family, co-workers), and perhaps most important of all, your attitude towards yourself.

The way you view work will ultimately have a huge impact on your happiness and the level of success you achieve from it. Work can be many things to many different people from the corporate employee, to the self-employed, to a sales associate at a local convenience store. The type of work is not really important, the point is the same, and that is that your attitude matters. Do you despise work, do you love work, or is it just another job? Determining where you stand is pretty easy to do, but search deeper and determine the reason behind why you have the attitude you do. Is it something that you can control? If yes, then change it, and if the answer is no, then change yourself anyways. If you aren’t happy with your situation you can only change yourself. Determine a goal and go obtain it. Develop a plan and seek it out with all that you have. Regardless of the outcome, when you earnestly strive to make something better of yourself and your situation, whatever that may be, your attitude will change with you, and you will feel a sense of pride, dignity, and self-worth.

The same notion, that you can only change yourself and your attitude, will help in your relationships with your friends, family, and co-workers and ultimately the way you view yourself and your sense of pride in knowing who you are and your value. By recognizing within yourself the things that can be handled differently in your relationships with others, you will also gain satisfaction in knowing you have made the effort and have done your part to become better than you ever thought possible. This attitude will change your life, and only for the better. As other people see and notice a change within you, you may notice them start to find it within themselves to change their own attitudes as well.

So regardless of the situation, remember that your attitude says it all. Only you can make the choice to change and try something new. You might find it was the best choice you ever made.
