Poker players live by the book in accordance to the dictionary meaning of discipline. Poker players rely heavily on discipline in order to become successful in their chosen endeavor.
If you’re playing poker or planning to play the game expect to test your patience. Sometimes you’ll experience anything from dead cards to outers for hours and it will test your capacity to discipline yourself. Sometimes, you’ll think that you got the greatest hand in a game, but you’ll be hit by the truth that someone has greater set of cards in the end. Well, I’d been hit with that reality a couple of times and I’m astounded by it!
Being in control means a lot of things and it applies widely on poker. It has 3 very significant points that a poker player needs.
Are you tough enough to enforce your own strategies and methods on the game? Are you mentally ready to handle pressure? Are you prepared to encounter a brush of bad luck and still continue to play your best?
Knowing is different from acting what you know. A person with a very good experience and discipline in playing poker can see the percentage of winning versus the bet. Almost all players won’t try to continue betting the odds even if they had a strong hand.
Even Kobe Bryant can’t deliver a last second three point basket when his team needed it to win. Sometimes pressure can distract even the most disciplined person. You must do well under pressure to survive anything even with poker. Big bet pots should be taken seriously and you must be well aware of the pressure that surrounds you because your chips are at stake. Those who can handle pressure will have a hard time beating the odds of poker.
In playing poker, you should also stay mentally alert. You must be aware that bad luck can brush you from time to time. Its a way to say that the wheel of life keeps turning and turning and not all the time your on top. Sometimes you need to experience on the downside of the wheel to even though you don’t like it.
A calm poker player stays a step ahead even on beat downs. They still continue to play hard ball throughout the game. Level headed players often get the most bets due to their calculation of risk and self control.
Playing with self discipline will help you not to lose a lot of money. You need to calculate you’re every move especially in betting big odds. Discipline will help you play the game right even on tough situations.

Self Discipline In Playing Poker
Discipline refers to the training that one gives one’s self to accomplish a certain task or to adopt a particular pattern of behavior, even though one would really rather be doing something else, as defined by Wikipedia. It is one’s way of staying calm in spite of being in a high pressure environment.
Poker players live by the book in accordance to the dictionary meaning of discipline. Poker players rely heavily on discipline in order to become successful in their chosen endeavor.
If you want to be a dedicated poker player, you must practice self discipline. Poker is the paramount test in a player’s sense of discipline. It will try anyone’s patience during down times. For example seeing an inferior hand win 3 times in a row would be a blast if a player don’t how to calm himself in such situations. I’d been on that situation before and it took a lot of control not to react or do anything stupid amidst my opponents.
Discipline had a vast vocabulary and in the game of poker you can almost apply it to every part of the game. But you can summarize discipline at the poker table in three significant points:
Do you have enough discipline to enforce what you have learned about the games methods and ideas? Will pressure enhance your performance? Do you think you can handle being on bad side of luck when you play poker?
Knowing a thing is different from taking it into action. Players who had controlled the game will fold their cards if they know the odds won’t justify the bet given in a particular situation. Others can’t lay a nice set of cards, thinking that they don’t have any chances of winning. Even though a player knows what to do, it does not mean that he will take it into action.
A well disciplined poker player can stay calm though they are experiencing those bad times and still continues to stay calm throughout the game.
Playing poker the right way includes a great amount of discipline in one’s self. If you don’t, then you’ll see that you’re going to lose a big amount of money quickly. Disciplined players oftentimes don’t make mistakes in betting chances. They know how to play the game right.

The Types of Online Poker and How they are Played
That there exists different types of poker is a generally known fact. Each is different in one way or another, but the basic principle of poker still basically holds true for each variation – you should win the Showdown phase where you show your combination of cards to your opponent and prove that you have the better set relative to your opponents. Along the way, you will be given chances to call, raise or fold – chances which are also given to your opponents. In all variations, the primary determiner for winning is your bluffing skills and combination of cards. Still poker’s various types offer mainly various poker encounters. You best know what each is about to decide what type you will be playing.
The Texas Hold’em
The most popular kind of online poker is Texas Hold’em. This variation has been used in tournaments regularly. Also, it is most played by online poker players so expect to meet all sorts of players here, both challenging and mediocre. This game can be played by two to ten players.
There shall be two private cards to be assigned to you. Everyone in the poker round can use the other five community cards. There is sufficient time for you to choose on folding, raising or calling, since there are four betting rounds. The game will culminate in the showdown phase.
Omaha Hold’em Variation
Two respected forms of Omaha Hold’em, a poker variation played in online poker, are Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi Lo. Four private cards will be given to individual players in this variation. There are five community cards, three of which shall be combined with two of the player’s private cards. The best five-card combination which sticks through the final Showdown shall merit the win – in Omaha Hi, at least. Whether or not the winner will be the player having highest or lowest value of card combination will be agreed before the game – in Omaha Hi Lo, at least.
Seven Card Stud and Seven Card High-Low Variation
Unlike the two poker variations mentioned, Seven Card Stud and Seven High-Low is capable of holding two to eight players only. This is most likely since this a rigid kind of game. Whilst there are four community cards, each player will be dealt with three private cards. To win, five out of the seven cards in total (three private, four community) must have the highest value – in Seven Card Stud, that is. The owner of the lowest or the highest value of combination of cards will be the winner in Seven Card High-Low.
The Five Card Draw
Five Card Draw holds a respectable position in the like of poker variation, even so it may be unpopular as the other poker variations. The respect of this variation is vindicated by the information that it can even be far-reaching and most of all very difficult to win. The players must think up the best five-card combination out of the only five private cards that will be dealt to each player. Practically, there are no other options very different to the other types of poker. But if you feel that you can play this challenging game because you are qualified and skilled enough, do not think twice.
