The Joys Of Barbecuing

With the summer finally here for another year (at least by here, I mean where I am), it is usually the time where you can go outside and experience the smells and sights of barbequing. Nothing is better than enjoying a nice barbeque with friends and family.

Bbqing can be a bit tricky at first but with some practice and a bit of knowledge, you will soon become quite a barbecue chef.

The first and probably the most important thing has to be to remember to keep everything as clean as possible. Keeping things like your bbq tools, grill and everything else clean will not only keep you from getting sick, but will also make sure nothing affects the taste of your food.

Cross contamination is also a factor. Make sure to never let raw meat touch anything else that may stay raw when you eat it. This includes any utensils that may touch the raw meat and then come in contact with something like salad or raw veggies. This is the number one way to get sick.

When choosing barbeques, it is basically just a matter of preference. Gas or propane are a bit mroe convenient since you do not have to wait for charcoal to heat up before using it. However, I find that charcoal has a bit better taste from the burning coal. Both types can be found in just about any hardware or deaprtment store.

So these are just a few things to remember in the summer time with barbeque season. Invite a few friends or your entire family for fun in the sun and an enjoyable meal on the barbeque. And remember, even in the winter, you can get some good barbequing going as well — just have to dress a heck of a lot warmer!

Improving Safety Within The Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important and often used rooms in the house. It is a place where all the family members in the house meet to socialise and eat food. It is, unfortunately, also one of the most dangerous rooms as it contains many electrical and gas appliances which are often left switched on and are unattended. Also it is a place where there is the potentially lethal combination of electricity and water.

In many countries the design of the kitchen has to meet local government standards and requires approval for health and safety reasons. A lot of countries make it mandatory to install fire extinguishers within the kitchen and have the ventilation set out in specific ways. Therefore, when designing a new kitchen it is important to take these factors into account.

Many of the kitchen related accidents can be due to the following:

Negligence in the initial design of the kitchen and also negligence whilst occupying the room. Some kitchen appliances may develop faults such as in the cookers, fridges or microwave. Mishandling of potentially dangerous equipment like knives, mixers and ovens.

Poor methods of kitchen waste management and poor drainage systems along with bad food storage and hygiene can present a risk of developing infections. A poorly organized kitchen can also lead to potential dangers.

Observing the following can help in alleviating some of these risks:

It is important to have all appliances in the kitchen regularly serviced. Not only will this increase safety but it can save money in the long run by reducing the need to replace equipment. Address the way food is handled and stored to maintain hygiene. Good ventilation is important to improve and ensure good air quality. Take care when handling equipment and follow any safety warnings. Turning off appliances when not in use is important and again can save you money and reduce environmental impact.

Always make sure that there are no unattended fires or naked flames within the kitchen. Make sure you do not place combustibles near a source of heat and ensure you have a fire blanket and fire extinguisher close by. Any emergency exits should be easily accessible and any children or elderly people should be supervised at all times. Be careful if wearing any loose garments near flames to make sure they do not catch alight.

Safety measures in the kitchen are relatively simple to put in place. The main contributing factors to accidents arising from the kitchen are often negligence and ignorance. It may a little extra investment in additional equipment like a fire blanket and involve frequent servicing. This small investment is priceless though when you consider it is to the benefit of the safety of your whole family.

Get Cooled Down This Summer with a Soft Serve Ice Cream Machine

Summer is hot! Clich. Since summer is here, it is time to cool down while enjoying the sun. One way to enjoy the sunshine is to eat frozen foods. And the best frozen food is no less than.. ice cream!

There’s one kind of ice cream that has been getting popular votes: soft serve ice cream. Does that mean there’s hard ice cream? To better understand it, we should get to know more the machine which makes this type of ice cream: the soft serve ice cream machine. Find out more about its features here:

Soft serve means ice cream, yogurt, custard and anything of that kind which are not frozen hard. What you need here is a soft serve ice cream machine which allows for air to add up 45% to its volume. You can just imagine that if 25% of air is added to the a gallon of ice cream it becomes 1.25 gallons in total. High temperature and air makes the ice cream creamier all throughout the mix. Air makes soft serve machines use fewer ingredients.

The machines are not only cool; they too have cool features. This type of machine is self-contained units that churn, mix, and freeze soft ice cream, which it can dispense too. Some of these machines have LED displays which you can use to set time and monitor the finished product. Once done, this machine will adapt to the mix found in it. The machine has a low mix light which will tell you when to refill the mix hopper. Other machines also have an audible signal which will allow you to add another mix.

Soft serve machines have safety mechanism that guards against compressor burnout. This mechanism allows the compressor to shut down if you don’t detect the low-mix alarm within few minutes. But the compressor will cycle after each 10 minutes to keep the ice cream cold until another is added to the mix. Other mechanism includes shooting hot refrigerant gas from the condenser to the barrel to avoid the ice cream from freezing solidly.

You have to choose a soft serve ice cream machine that can hold enough ice cream you need to produce in every setting. These machines’ capacity is usually measured in volumes. Those that have high volume can hold up to 7 servings, the medium ones 4-5, as the low volume machines can hold 2-3.

As to energy consumption, a soft ice cream machine with small capacity generally use up 115 volts while the larger ones consume 208-230 volts.

Once the mix has turned into soft ice cream, it is now ready to be served in a cone or bowl. It can also be matched in root beers or banana split desserts. Whatever is your choice, walk under the sun and get cool down with soft ice cream. Happy eating.

Popcorn is a mainstay snack for many people whether it is for the young or even those who are not. It has been a great companion in several celebrations done across the years. The most pressing concern that people have about popcorn is the price and availability of this great snack as it gets to costly to look for a store that sells popcorn. It is in that sense that an old fashioned popcorn machine becomes a handy appliance in the kitchen.

It may have the grand look of an original popcorn machine but you can still enjoy the most advance features with it. This will make a good kitchen furniture without jeopardizing the quality of the popcorn it produces.
