The Flaming Lips: Best Seven Studio Albums

With the upcoming release of The Flaming Lips 12th studio album, Embryonic, it seems like a good time for a career overview of the best albums the Lips have released to date. What follows is the seven best Flaming Lips albums (in my opinion) in chronological order. These are the seven Flaming Lips albums I recommend you go out and buy right now if you don’t already have them.

In a Priest Driven Ambulance (1990) – For some noise rock lovers this is actually The Flaming Lips best album. I’m not really a noise rock lover myself, so I’m not in that category. But I do enjoy this album. At first I found it a bit off putting (I first fell in love with The Soft Bulletin) but has grown on me.

Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992) – I think Hit to Death… is an underrated Lips album that deserves far more praise than it gets. I hear a big advance from Priest… to Hit to Death… as far as sonic experimentation and psychedelia.

Transmission from the Satellite Heart (1993) – This is probably the Lips most overrated album because it has their most overrated song, “She Don’t Use Jelly,” on it. It’s still a great album though because a lot of the other songs are very good.

Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) – I think this is the album that works as sort of the encapsulation of the best of the previous three albums. If you are wanting to start digging into the Lips back catalog after first being introduced to the band with their more recent work, this is probably the album to start with.

Zaireeka (1997) – You can only listen to Zaireeka as intended by playing all four CDs on four different CD players simultaneously. But there are a lot of mix-down versions of the album “out there” that gives some approximation of the experience.

The Soft Bulletin (1999) – A lot has been said about this album and for good reason. It is a modern day classic. I think it deserves all of the critical acclaim that it gets. One of the best albums of the 1990s.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002) – To many who have discovered the Lips more recently this is the Lips best album. While I do think it’s a brilliant album I do think The Soft Bulletin is a superior album.

Taylor Swift Concert Tickets in Dallas

Taylor Swift’s musical ability is uncommon for her youth, and her songs have taken the country music world by storm and created millions of fans with her blend of pop-country. As one of the youngest songwriters to achieve so much success, her first headlining concert tour has generated excitement across the country. This year’s tour includes a show in Dallas, expected to be one of the biggest shows of the season.

Although Swift’s immediate success is uncommon, the girl from Pennsylvania has, at nineteen years old, broken through after beginning her career in karaoke and theatre groups when she was just a child. Her talent was evident even as a youth.

By the time Taylor had reached the age of twelve, she was already writing her own songs and playing guitar. Within five years, she released “Tim McGraw”, a single which peaked at number 6 on the country music charts. With the release of her album “Fearless” last year, she has established herself as one of the biggest names in country music.

This year’s summer concert tour is Taylor’s first, and she is one of the youngest artists to get top billing in so many large venues. Taylor will likely be one of the top grossing concert earners for the year, with her show in Los Angeles selling out in just two minutes. Taylor has managed to achieve mega success without a major commercial push behind her.

Dallas’ show is to be played at the American-Airlines Center, one of the largest indoor concert venues anywhere in Texas, home to the team’s NBA and NHL franchises. Even with tens of thousands of tickets to offer, the show sold out in a matter of minutes, though ticket brokers always have great deals on shows like Swift’s. Dallas is Texas’ first city and one of country music’s most lucrative markets and toughest crowds. Swift is expected to enchant the Big D like she has crowds across the US and Canada, with her extreme talent and beloved showmanship.

Dallas is receptive of country music and Taylor Swift is one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer concert season, although September is just a bit outside of “official” summer dates. Taylor’s charisma and talent will blow away the fans in Big D, and her attention to detail will guarantee a great show.

Playing Guitar – Tips To Avoid Newbie Burnout

Playing guitar for extended periods of time is really stressful for your back if you don’t have good posture. Keeping the following key points in mind should help you maintain a good posture and hold your guitar correctly. When you hold your guitar, the back of the instrument should rest against your stomach. For people who use the right hand for playing guitar, the neck of the guitar will point to their left. The guitar body should rest on your right thigh. Your left hand should go around the guitar’s neck while your right arm goes around the body so your hand is near the strings. If it doesn’t feel right, try to shift your body around until you feel comfortable and relaxed.

For right handed players, you will use your left hand to form the notes and chords. Bend the fingers on your left hand so they are pressing the strings down on the fret board.

The back of the neck of the guitar is curved in order for your hands to fit the around it comfortably. Your thumb bends over the top of the neck and this is a universal thumb position used when constructing chords.Even though the technique is used more often when playing guitar scales, many find it useful to press their thumb into the back of the guitar neck. The most important thing is to find out which position is easier and more comfortable for you.

When you are first playing guitar watch your positioning while playing. Your right bicep should be resting on the top part of the guitar body. Getting into bad guitar playing habits now may afflict your playing for years to come so try to get it right now. With your right arm resting on top of the guitar and your hand positioned over the sound hole use your right hand to “strum” the strings. The sound hole is where the sound of the guitar comes from.

Many people make use of a pick when playing guitar. Simply hold the pick between the thumb and forefinger of your right hand. Draw the pick across the strings you want to play. Its similar to plucking the string but you use a little bit more pressure than you normally would when strumming with your fingers.

Left-handed musicians do not need to worry. There are two options for playing guitar left handed. First, you can re-string a right-handed guitar to reverse the order of the strings. Second, you can buy a specially made left-handed guitar.

When playing guitar, holding the instrument properly as well as maintaining a good posture permits you to play longer and is crucial to achieving the correct tone. Get into the habit of starting properly and it will serve you well.
