How To Make A Newsletter. Discover Major Mistakes That Will Bury You Before You Send Email Newsletter

Is this really that important to know how to make a newsletter correctly? Can’t I just learn as I go?

Not so fast. Bare with me and I will tell you exactly why it is dangerous to dive head on without any knowledge.

I will clarify:

Almost 95% of your emails will end up going to one of these big providers:

“Yahoo”, “Gmail”, AOL and “Hotmail” (MSN).

They have entire DEPARTMENTS full of staff working 9 to 5 every day just to cut SPAM into their system and they can block you at several levels like block your individual message, all messages from you or your entire email server and if they do, you are basically dead in the water since you cannot send any messages and are only left with tiny 5% of your list.

Think about it.

Learning how to make a newsletter may just be the few hours’ investment that will save you a lot of nerves and frustration in the future. Do you think it is going to be worth it? I mean, I am not perfect either. Heck, I made all of these mistakes myself when I just started 10 years ago. So learn from it and do not repeat them.

I bet you have a gut feeling of what I am talking about, because you are using email yourself. It is disappointing that a lot of people just don’t know how to make a newsletter and repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Your junk mail folder is a testament to those. Finding a really good newsletter is a bit harder, but I know you saw a few of those examples as well. Let me cover widespread mistakes one by one.

* Always, I mean ALWAYS provide a way to easily unsubscribe from your newsletter. Some even put it at the top of each message… This might be an overkill, but it must be plainly visible and must work. Never hide your unsubscribe text in a tiny, puny Grey on white text that is barely visible. It might not go well with your clients. Most of big Internet providers realize, that you will always have at least some people complaining about your message. They forgot who you are, or they are just generally pissed off and suddenly your message comes in to top the pot of anger and they react… It is OK with them, as long as it is not a huge movement, but if you know how to make a newsletter, it comes almost automatically.

* Always write from the same easily identifiable name and from address. A lot of people will add your email address to their contact list and this will automatically deliver your messages without any checking to their mailbox. If you change your from email a lot, it will not be possible. Also include the name of your company or a web site, so that your clients know who you are and where are.

* I would highly recommend to avoid HTML. I know, I know. Jumpy flash widgets look cool… to YOU. For your client, it’s just annoying. Remember yourself when you get screaming colours that make your eyes sore. If you are so inclined, write a plain text message and include a link to a copy of this message with full flash and JavaScript on your web site. If users will want to, they will read it there. You can even put it in the beginning of the newsletter. This alone will give you a lot of benefits such as:

* You will get rather small emails and naturally, they will be faster to send.

* Most of SPAM uses colour text and has a lot of graphics content to grab attention, therefore user eyes are so trained to it, and the users are very trigger happy. They will instantly kill any colourful message with pictures.

* You will get much more of SPAM filters love, because they give much higher score to messages that contain a lot of HTML formatting.

* Your clients will definitely appreciate it, since it is also easier for them to read.

* Wider acceptance with email reading programs. I mean, I don’t know an email reader, that will not let you read plain text!

* By default, mail clients will remove flash, JavaScript and images completely, so you will end up with something totally unpredictable (if at all readable).

If your message is small, plain-text and to-the-point, it will have a high chance of success among your clients. Naturally, there are some exceptions and if you have to have HTML, please use it in moderation.

* Do not create boring newsletters. If you do, your clients will not read them. If there is too much terminology, they will just click away to the next email with a dreaded Delete” button. People start to snore and you will get responses in the lines of:

efwiwepoitjdbfpufpetumiuijter

That means, somebody’s head fell on his keyboard and pushed a few random buttons. It is good that you are becoming a catalyst for rest and relaxation among your clients, however, it doesn’t do you any good and that is not your initial point, right? When talking about how to make a newsletter, the first and most important thing is make it simple. Do not bore your readers with terminology they might not understand. You never know who is reading your newsletters and why. By sprinkling jargon and terminology in your article, you narrow down your audience dramatically.

Email Marketing And The Importance Of Taking Action

Email marketing is not much different from direct marketing. However, unlike advertising email marketing encourages the receiver to do want to read more information about it, or fill out an application or buy it online.

Email marketing provokes quicker actions in the receiver than advertising or direct marketing do because of its interactive nature. The receiver may respond immediately or not to respond at all.

Responses the potential customers give to email marketing are expressed by clicking on a link within the text or an image that is included in the message. The receiver is also given information in case he or she wants to talk to a business representative to know more about a certain product or have the vendor call back.

There are various techniques that email marketers use to encourage people to click on a link or to send emails.

The main action in email marketing may be implicit, but the receiver of the email needs to feel attracted to clicking on icons. This can be done by the use of the appropriate trigger words or a series of appealing images. It is a proven fact that when a piece or advertisement has the “click” in it, it draws attention to it and therefore increases the amount of times it is clicked.

Marketers can choose from an array of action words that would encourage potential customers to seek more information.

In email marketing everything has to do with the ability to click on something. Therefore, recipients of emails need to find it easy to click on the information. The message has to be highlighter in order to stand out from the rest of the text.

Studies have shown that people are more susceptible to click to links inside texts than to click on images. Email marketing campaigns can use this to their advantage and add more links within texts than other types of attractors. Links must lead the customer to a description about your product, to your company’s website and it should not involve too many steps.

Email marketing campaigns should use links to text or websites when they include a good amount of text in them.

There are a set of techniques to encourage people to click and find more information about a certain product or a business. An accelerator can be a gift given to the first ones to click on an ad or before a certain deadline.

Getting a 40% conversion from a members optin email list means big money is being made.

Direct mail mailing lists help you successfully commercialize and trade products to a list of customers. These customers will be people that you have established a relationship with over time and who you can feel free to contact again regularly.

The main problem with building direct mail mailing lists from scratch is that they do take time to build. You can purchase lists from a mailing list company, but this is not the best method because you don’t know anyone on these lists personally and you could easily be accused of spamming when you do happen to make contact.

The other trouble with buying a list from a mailing list company is that the individuals on the lists have doubtlessly been got hold of before by others who bought the very same list, and are probably tired of their in boxes being filled up with unrequested emails. These people are not likely to convert through email marketing and are not likely to yield that high conversion you are looking for.

The solution to your direct mail mailing list problem is to construct an opt in mailing list. An opt in mailing list is perfect because by letting customers to request your e-mail, you are establishing a high caliber, highly targeted list of INTERESTED clients! Building an opt in mailing list takes a substantial amount of time, but the rewards are much, much greater. Again, that highly pointed mailing list is going to be much more precious to you than a list of random email addresses.

The most important factor in building an opt in mailing list is of course, traffic. The more traffic you get to your website, the more people are going to sign up for your mailing list. It’s that simple. Offer something in return for signing up for the mailing list, and you’ll have people signing up like crazy. A great way to get people to sign up is to offer a free ebook or discounts related to your product via the mailing list.

An opt in mailing list will get you sales much faster, as these viewers will be much more likely to open your electronic mails, read what you have to say and convert. And that’s exactly the goal, isn’t it? Now, go get started!
